In Autumn 2018 we partnered with the youth-led sustainable development charity, Raleigh International. Focusing on programmes to empower youths to reduce deforestation and desertification in Tanzania.
The efforts of the locals and Raleigh volunteers since then has resulted in significant progress towards achieving their goals within the area. Planting 532,000 seedlings, replanting 322 acres of land and creating 4 new tree nurseries.
Although there’s still a long way to go to reverse deforestation, the 617 community members that have now been trained on natural resource management combined with the support of Raleigh volunteers, will enable the project to continue. Even expand and ultimately prove beneficial to the local community as well as the climate as a whole.
“Action Not Excuses”
This year Raleigh is endeavouring to combat the global climate crisis despite the pandemic. Their current global projects will continue, but in 2021 they will also be launching a series of ambitions UK centric programmes to focus on environmental concerns that need immediate attention.
